Interesting thoughts - but a bit too optimistic as I see it.

I don't disagree with your thoughts but I saw weaknesses that will be harder to overcome than you appear to think.

Our receiving/passing was extremely bad during the last two sets.  Once Marquette kept ball away from Lake, our team completely broke down.  I just don't see a quick fix for an entire team that can't receive/pass outside of one player.  It was an eye opener.

Setter may be fine for a freshman, but realistically, that isn't the point.  She was off on alot of sets when pass was well placed and completely ineffective when out of system.  I don't remember one back set, which means at least 1/3 of the court is not in play on offense, something Marquette took serious advantage of in last two sets.  She may become a good setter, but the difference between her and Haddock from the past several years right now is HUGE.

Not having Perry-Jones is an obvious downer.  She was the cleaner upper whenever BYU needed a big point.  Miller can't be counted on for that and neither can anyone else on this team.  Middles were great last year, but without the outside hitting, on top of passing and setting issues, they were completely ineffective.

I would love to be able to put on blue glasses, but as I see it, Ohlmstead has way too many issues on this team right now to pull it all together this year unless some time of miracle happens.  I see this team losing 10 matches, maybe more and don't believe they will make the tournament at all this year.  And take away Lake and Miller next year and unless some ladies really step up, the trend won't change next year either.  I have loved watching the past 10 years or so, but from what I saw this past week (and not just the Marquette match, but the other two as well), I just can't see the great tradition carrying forward right now.
