And if that group was not behind BYU sports they would not have invested

millions into recent stadium renovations. To put the money into the stadium only to shut the program down, or to not be invested is simply not how BYU, the BOT, and the Church works. They do not throw good money away on LES if they are planning on ending, or simply don't care about the program.
