Interesting discussion with the USC beat guy on the radio today.
They were talking about BYU's best option when it comes to defense. A) provide a lot of pressure or B) provide a lot of coverage and not give up the big play, then hold USC to FG's or play for them to make a mistake.

Apparently one of the things that Crowton told PK or DJ when he was in Provo is that new/rookie QB's, even those who look good early in drives, are bad in the red zone. There's a compressed field. The throwing lanes are smaller. They have to react, make decisions, and throw with better timing, etc.

The USC beat writer mentioned that Stanford tried to play man with USC's WR's, but the USC WR's are better players and it didn't work out for them. So USC made some big plays. They also talked about the fact that one of the reasons the USC line looks better this year and has given up fewer sacks could be attributed to the new offense and the practice of getting the ball out fast - so the OL doesn't have to hold up for long.

As much as we don't like it - the Tuiaki approach of playing coverage with some bend but don't break and trying to stop the opponent in the red zone may actually be BYU's best shot here. Better than applying pressure.
