for me, the big difference is the drumming. Lars doesn't play fast on the Black
album.
He played slower beats sometimes on older albums, of course, but on the black album he plays pretty much exclusively slow.
And the riffs are slower - there's less 16th note fast picking.
I'll admit to not knowing anything after the black album.
