The upper deck is a later addition, and the lights used to be behind the only
deck on the east side. In 1990 the Glass Bowl went from 18,000 to 26,000 and they did the easy thing and plopped up grand stands without removing the lights. It really doesn't affect the view like you think it would. It's kind of cool the way he stadium feels right on top of the field. No wasted space...
