I have worked in health care and law and seen this story play out
Used to work for the insurance companies, and saw how they would have no interest in the actual input from the doc or the effect on doc. All about saving insurance co’s money.

For example especially older surgeon might take out the non cancerous kidney due in part to a radiology picture that was reversed, or the non cancerous breast due to nurse error.

Jury’s love to give big awards on these types of cases, liability apportioned all around, but the lawsuit and jury award use up all the docs insurance sometimes. Usually forces the closing of a practice, especially older docs.

Cases settle the remaining amount above the insurance by taking docs million dollar cabin, his non exempt retirement, and even liens against docs home.

I can’t help but think there has got to be a better way. Like workers compensation that prevented companies from being bankrupted by employee accidents.

Attorneys hit it big on these and it causes a bad distribution in the economy. I don’t see that healthcare getting shut down and priced out of reach for most Americans (and causing lots of bankruptcy) so that a few lawyers and plaintiffs can live exorbitantly is in the best interest of America.

Workers comp ideas would work I think. If we don’t do something the medical system will collapse despite the injection of money that Obama care provided.
