Zoo or Safari Park, Coronado Island, tide pools (Bird Rock is my favorite),
catch a Padres game (Petco Park is fantastic), Balboa Park. Someone already mentioned Julian, which is great. In the summer the San Diego County Fair is a lot of fun. It's one of the largest fairs in the country.
