Maybe they don't care about BYU. Maybe they don't want to deal with the bureaucratic nightmare. Maybe they don't want to deal with a different set of rules that none of their competitors have to deal with. Maybe they don't want to deal with Independence. Maybe they don't want to risk their coaching reputation on any of those negatives.
I'm sure some of the names being thrown around fall into one or more of those categories and wouldn't want to be here. Having 7 options turn into 4 really narrows things down.
Open up the universe. Sure, it won't mean that you'll have thousands of qualified coaches beating down your door for the job. But it might turn those four options into 8 or 10 or 12 and possibly open the program up to something special.
