Technically challenging accounting issues who had a degree in Education along with a Masters and a PhD. However qualified he may be in his discipline as an educator, he wouldn't have the training, technical expertise, or experience to manage a large accounting staff and deal with SEC reporting, FASB, GAAP, and other stringent requirements. How could he possibly provide meaningful guidance to his team?
And btw, I've interacted with Matt and don't find him as awesome as you do. I don't see him as a progressive and strategic leader that helps drive our athletic programs to success on the field. He's a Religion professor that got all his degrees at BYU for Pete's sake with no diversity in his experience or training. I see him enjoying all the benefits of the position, but only a bureaucrat, and DEFINITELY kept immune from all the pressures Holmoe and Sitake and Rose would face.
