requirement. It’s all about supporting missions and adhering to word of wisdom.
I’m not some straight laced guy that grew up in the church in Utah, although I live in Utah now.
They (non mem coach)are coming in saying “I don’t believe your faith” that’s fine except when his ability to be successful is limited because so many lds recruits want to serve missions and teach others about something he doesn’t believe in.
Heck, As a member I get a little frustrated knowing a new recruit won’t be around for a couple years or they come back and can’t regain their form...as a nonmember I would start to diversify to limit the effect on the team of RM’s, try to get more speed, athleticism... Crowton did a great job of this and almost got the program shut down.
I’m all for diversity of the staff but the head coach HAS to be LDS. It’s too much to ask a non member to put aside the perceived betterment of the team for a kid’s desire to serve - something non members just don’t understand. I know there are guys that may be exceptions but in the long run we are asking for trouble. If they don’t want to be a member than I’m guessing they aren’t going to be too concerned with the missionary tool aspect of the team. I can see why it’s non negotiable.
