I learned at an early age from working for a contractor, seeing friends do it
that I have never and most likely will never build my own. The idea that you get to pick out all your own things so you won't be bugged by them only lasts for a less than a year at which point you are sick of things or don't know why you chose them. It's typical for anything in design. Plus, buying already built is a way better bang for your buck. Our current house would have been 20% more if we built it ourselves.
