The latest one on the radio: “I am a contractor and didn’t have money to pay my taxes, so I didn’t submit returns for three years. Then the IRS said I owed 100k. I lawyered up, only had to pay 20k, and life is good now. “
I know the IRS can be jerks, it is wise to have a lawyer, but this feels like he is avoiding legal taxes, which either means the rest of us have to pay more, or the shortfall in tax collections each year builds up to millions.
Am I right or am I being ungenerous to the scofflaws?
