No more excuses for Kalani. Zero. Zip. None. He doesn't deserve a single excuse.
I still see the baseless argument that Kalani is facing tougher schedules or in a more difficult situation than Bronco. Not so. Here are the SOS rankings from teamrankings/Sagarin/S&P:

2011: 66/90/88
2012: 36/63/63
2013: 28/38/63
2014: 58/69/91
2015: 45/65/65

Average SOS = 61.9, Average wins = 8.6 per season, 6-7 against UU/BSU/USU

2016: 63/75/72
2017: 81/74/62
2018: 61/69/47

Average SOS = 67.1, Average wins = 6.7 per season, 1-8 against UU/BSU/USU

Aside from the very first year of Independence, there is absolutely no data to support the idea that Kalani is excused because he faces tougher schedules. He has not faced tougher schedules than Bronco, and frankly, it would be easier to argue that they've been a little easier for Kalani. Kalani doesn't get that excuse.

Let's acknowledge that Bronco was able to get to at least 8 wins every season of independence despite playing QBs like James Lark (3rd string), Christian Stewart (former 4th string), Tanner Mangum (true freshman less than 3 months off the mission), broke-back Riley Nelson, etc. so if we didn't give Bronco a pass for having QB injuries, then Kalani doesn't get that excuse either.

This is year 4 of Kalani and Tuiaki's defense, and instead of seeing evidence of a rebuild, there is only overwhelming data that the defense has regressed horrendously. Tuiaki is Kalani's guy (unlike Detmer) and Kalani was a defensive coordinator, so Kalani doesn't get that excuse.

Everyone was upset that Bronco was only 0-4 (3-7 overall) against UU, 2-2 against BSU, and 4-1 (8-2 overall) against USU. Kalani is 0-4 against UU, 0-3 against BSU, and 1-2 against USU. Furthermore, recall that Bronco beat the best USU team of the decade in 2012 that had 11 wins and finished ranked, with a freshman QB in Taysom Hill and freaking Brandon Doman as the OC. USU has been good for the entire Independence era, and we didn't excuse Bronco for that. So Kalani doesn't get that excuse.

Kalani was touted as an excellent recruiter, and the recruiting rankings have actually trended for the worse compared to under Bronco. While I don't feel that tells the whole story, particularly with transfers, it is nevertheless telling that Kalani's recruiting cannot offset his poor coaching.

And finally, I can't help but roll my eyes every time I see excuses that the administration and BOT are the reasons why BYU is struggling to reach bowl eligibility under Kalani. Those are reasons why BYU won't ever compete with the blue bloods, but it's no excuse for this cluster yewt when BYU is losing to teams like UMass, ECU, Toledo, USF, etc. Those programs are not better off than BYU financially or administration-wise. Bronco showed BYU can win more games every season and in more convincing fashion while facing the same restrictions as Kalani, so Kalani doesn't get that excuse.

No more excuses for Kalani. Zero. Zip. None. He doesn't deserve a single one.
