That’s not how statistical polling works
They are not trying to say “out of 100 people surveyed 56 said...”

What they are trying to do is get a statistically significant result to a question. This involves the use of statistical procedures including hypothesis testing, confidence intervals and other tools.

Many times how things are presented in the media are “ dumbed down” so that the masses can understand the takeaways but that doesn’t change the underlying statistical procedures that are used to generate the data
