Agree. My son did a service mission. They can choose the length. I have heard that eventually they will just offer people to serve a mission: either proselyting or service. The service can fill in nicely for people with interesting scenarios. And when my son got his call, it was stressed that a service mission and a proselyting mission are the same in the eyes of Christ (a quote from President Monson), which I thought was cool.
