He is allowed to run in fair territory as long as his path from the box to 1st is
a straight line and he ends up over the bag, which he did. The "interference" came as a result of a poor throw well wide of the bag behind the runner.

Correct, but that wasn't interfence, hence the thumbs down. You get the middle of the bag. You don't have to be in foul
