I was told they would like to move to a styrofoam type helmet..
Similar to a bike helmet. Idea is have it rated to a specific impact level. If it exceeds it the helmet cracks and signals the need for concussion protocols.
Problem is costs...not so much to pro and college levels but H.S. and under. No way teams could afford to have multiple helmets available if players crack them all the time. So for now they've shut it down.
