The season seemed really "meh" because up until a couple years before BYU won the conference for something like 8 straight years. So losing the conference race for the second year in a row to Wyoming (and third year in a row, as SDSU won it in 1986), and losing bad to Utah, among other things (such as the offense was just not at all as high powered as we had recently enjoyed), the season was very lack luster overall. I think the 1988 team would rate better overall as a team than the 2019 team though.
