employed in the profession. Looking at hoops: None of Dave Rose’s assistants are coaching college basketball this year. They have all left the industry. This boggles the mind. Tim Lacomb works for a company called Visible Supply Chain Management. Quincy Lewis is the AD at Timpview High School. Lee Cummard is now an assistant coach for BYU Women's basketball.
I know that Detmer, Mahe, and Doman are no longer coaching.
Are we getting the best assistant coaches for our big ticket programs? Nobody can say yes. But my question is this: Are we scraping the bottom of the barrel to fill out coaching rosters? My goodness, it seems as if we hire assistant coaches who view their job as a kind of hobby. Or dare I say, as a “church calling”?
The point is this, we as fans, BYU as an institution, and the players we recruit all deserve better than coaches who are in the profession and working just for BYU. I guess Grimes will move on in the profession at some point, but he seems like an outlier.
