Conference championships are meaningless because all conferences aren't equal.
Some conferences are significantly better (i.e., SEC) than others (i.e., B12, B10, PAC12, ACC).

Bama. Conference champ with 1 loss gets in.

I don't believe that will matter. The SEC gets all the love (specifically Bama)

If you aren't the best team in your conference then you aren't the best overall.

Do you want the four best teams in the playoff or the four regional champs?

Ideally the 4 best teams...but it's impossible to not let biases creep in.

Except they aren't looking for the best team overall per se.

Then let's just crown the SEC champ as national champ, and cancel the playoff.
