Wasn't it because the non LDS BYU ROTC Officers couldn't drink coffee?

While stationed at BYU they couldn't drink coffee, and that was a problem. And someone wouldn't sign the HC, because he drank coffee, and wasn't going to give up coffee.

I mean after all, coffee is where the majority of Americans get their antioxidants...
