he needs to hire someone who actually knows how to run it. There are several coaches under Mendenhall that would run the multi-facet version it should be, with multiple fronts and blitzes modeled after nfl teams, and not a Tuiaki 3 man rush soft zone base. It's also likely that Sitake and Lamb don't know how to run the sophisticated version of it either since when byu actually mixed it up, it's still pretty basic. They need to admit they need expertise, and find a way to hire a coach who can implement a better 3-4 scheme.
Or they could just recruit a better DL and move back to a 4-3, but it seems like most of the top rated DL (particularly pass rushers) aren't considering byu, and we have better odds of getting better recruits at the lb position to run a 3-4.
