Also, perhaps not surprisingly, due to gov't cronyism w/ certain food industries
Scientists knew for some time that carbohydrates, and especially sugars, were the primary source of obesity and heart disease. But the gov't supported and funded the low-fat fad and squelched the good science. Journalists dug into it and found a lot of food lobbying at the heart of it. Diet science is still struggling to recover.
