most predictions having BYU on the outside looking in? I realize BYU was a 10 seed in 2014 (just a 14 seed in 2012), but I seem to recall everyone being shocked at that seeding when we were a true bubble team at the time.

Looking back, I'm still surprised we made the tournament in 2014 (and especially with a 10 seed). BYU had wins over an unranked Texas (neutral site) and #22 Gonzaga but it also racked up the following losses: #21 Iowa St. (home), #12 Wichita St. (neutral), #21 UMass (neutralish, but really close to UMass), unranked Utah (road), #11 Oregon (road), unranked Loyola Marymount, unranked Pepperdine (road), unranked Portland (road), #21 Gonzaga (road), and unranked Pacific (road).

We did sweep St. Mary's (unranked both times) and also notched a win again against unranked Utah St., but I can't recall whether Utah St. was any good that year.

Regardless, we were just 8-7 at one point after the Loyala Marymount and Pepperdine losses, and we still finished just 23-11 after losing to Gonzaga in the conference tournament finals. That was not an impressive body of work. And it showed when Oregon stomped us by 20 points in the first (ahem... "second") round of the NCAA tournament.
