When the games mean something, they show up and look awesome. Guys are flying around the field. And then they’ll turn around, get loose, and lose to South Florida, or throw offensive duds against SDSU and NIU.
What will probably happen, and seems most likely, is that the guys play very well and win the bowl... then we go into next year and have no idea what games they’ll be checked out and play like it’s meaningless.
BYU needs a more defined sense of purpose right now. Whether it’s “tradition spirit honor” banners around the stadium and firesides on Friday nights, or selling the farm to get into a real conference, these guys clearly need a sense of meaning when things get mundane. I hope we can find a way to instill that. Until they feel it means something every time they take the field, the uninspired showings will continue to be a mantra of BYU Football.
