BYU, by choice, is in a unique position. Because BYU feels they need to hire a good-standing member of the Church as their head coach, the pool of available coaches are very small. Therefore, they have to invest in their coaches. They have to be patient and let them develop.
Kalani has never been a head coach before. Therefore, he's been learning a lot of hard lessons every year since becoming the head coach. And he has more to learn.
As much as I'd love to see BYU be consistently good on the field and their coaches consistently make solid decisions, I'm also willing to be patient.
BYU has been so up and down this year. One week they play amazing and play calling and preparation seem to have been spot on and they beat teams like USC, Boise St, and Tennessee. The next they look so uninspired.
I think a lot of it is coaching. Part of it is the youth of the team.
The bottom line is that I'm ok being patient with the process. I'm going to enjoy the fun victories we get. And not let the frustrating moments get to me too much.
