This is the better metric. Utah's style of play (points in paint) attracts more
fouls. Opponents all year long have been getting called for lots of fouls against Utah because their offense forces you to stop them inside... and that usually results in more fouls called.

BYU was taking more outside shots which draw fewer fouls.

I'm not saying the officiating was great. There were plenty of bad calls. But a disparity in foul calls doesn't mean the refs were pulling for one side over the other.
