The PAC 12 will be left out of the playoffs yet again, and deservedly so. Utah was able to coast through a weak division and pass off being lucky for being good (though honest observers must admit there was plenty of both). But the south, and the league in general, is just not very good.
This should not surprise anyone. We’ve known for years that USC is the only national power in that conference. If the Trojans aren’t carrying their water no one else in that division will.
Hopefully the rest of the nation remembers this next year and spares us the pretense that the PAC should be considered on the same level as the true power conferences until USC makes its return. Until then, we shouldn’t be talking about P5 (and we certainly aren’t talking about P6)—it’s really the P4.
Serves them right.
