The "you can only beat who you scheduled years ago" excuse works when you're
undefeated, like Clemson is. Clemson being the defending national champs and returning their QB from last year is enough to give them the benefit of the doubt, assuming they take care of business against Virginia.

I get the criticism of the Big12 more so, especially since the Big12 doesn't have a single win in the CFP, but the Big12 was still clearly better than the PAC12, so the only other option is to put in a second SEC team, which I'd be okay with actually.
