Yeah, they hated us, but there was barely animosity from BYU to Utah, and the only real smack came once a year in football and twice a year in hoops. At most BYU would claim their superiority over a weak conference...but other than that, Utah and USU were cute little brothers that a lot of us could cheer for when they would go to a bowl, etc. (in the name of the State of Utah, and maybe the conference).
You think that maybe when Utah would win the lottery, they would at least recognize that BYU deserves to be in the P5. The fanbase alone justifies it as do the facilities and tradition. However, Utah disses all of this...and continues to slam the program, school, and for some, the Church.
I do think BYU fans have often become the little brother...this is true. But the reason is justified.
If the Ute fans were respectful of the BYU program and their fans, I think more BYU fans could feel happy for their rival.
Disclaimer: I realize there are a lot of great Utah fans...and some come to this board, remain classy, and enjoy the rivalry for what it should be.
