idol worship is really overblown and you need to relax about it. Don’t misplace respect and appreciation for military servicemen as hero worship. Complaining about other people’s gratitude is a bad look. I promise you that nobody expressing appreciation for your father’s service thinks he’s a god. Your father is free to be as modest as he wishes, but your sniping about gratitude is off putting and a bad look.
But not as bad of a look as is it would be for BYU to try to upstage the military academies on Army-Navy Day It is a long tradition celebrating fine young men. The fact the certain corporations try to capitalize off of it is unfortunate, but that does not mean it is not a worthy tradition. It would be disrespectful, inappropriate, and almost universally reviled if BYU tried to schedule something in that date. It would have the opposite effect of what you are trying to accomplish. Any national attention would be negative. There is a very good reason ESPN doesn’t schedule games on that date. And we don’t want Jerry Falwell as the face of religion in this country, so scheduling with Liberty would be the opposite of wonderful.
Probably best to let this idea die.
