Flash back to the end of last season.
We get blown out by San Diego in embarrassing fashion to end the year. Coach Rose is retiring and Yoeli is leaving for the draft, continuing the trend of our best players getting out of Provo as fast as possible. We missed 20 wins for the first time in 14 years and added a fourth straight year of missing the NCAA tournament. We weren't even good enough to get invited to the NIT and news was still fresh that we were going to have to vacate two season's worth of wins.

A ton of uncertainty surrounded the program and we looked to be headed towards at least a mini-rebuild before being able to compete for an at-large bid. There was a fairly high level of apathy around the program we needed to find a replacement for Coach Rose out of one of the shallowest coaching pools in D1 basketball. We were looking at multiple years of third place finishes (best case) in our conference with a certified national powerhouse having first place locked down. The schedule for this season was extremely difficult and the roster looked to be in need of a fairly major overhaul.

Now we sit here talking about how we were a few bounces away from a special season. Yoeli comes back, Barcello and Toolson transfer in along with real size and post talent for the next few years. To look at where we were this summer before factoring in that Baxter is out for the year and Yoeli came back two games ago, it is an amazing turn around. The fact that we are even in the at-large bid discussion at all is amazing and a huge testament to the new coaching staff and the players for putting in the work.
