Would love to see it expand to 12. P5 conference champs, highest ranked G5 champ
and 6 at large spots. With 6 at large spots would that be enough for BYU to stay Independent and hope for a 11-1 year? I mean even 10-2 this year with hypothetical wins against Washington, Toledo, and USF would’ve put us ranked near the top 10-16 most likely.
Would be interesting to see what BYU admin does in that scenario. An 8 team playoff is much better than 4, but I think 12 would be the sweet spot.
There’s usually a couple tiers of power with this years tier 1 of LSU, Ohio State, and Clemson. Tier 2 of Oklahoma, Oregon, Georgia, and Baylor. Tier 3 would be Wisconsin, Florida, Penn State, and Bama. Tier 4 is basically a crap shoot of teams ranked 13-25.
