Maybe it’s a fluke and I’ve interacted with non-representative samples
But the Utes I worked with or lived near in Utah or knew on my mission were generally fine. Happy to talk football, not over the top, didn’t rub it in an obscene amount when they beat us, etc. The non-sports fans didn’t really care at all about BYU.

Utah State fans, on the other hand, were way more likely to be tools about BYU. More obsessed, more self-conscious about any academic advantage BYU had, more likely you make snide insulting jokes about BYU when no one was making any kind of comparison.

I’m no Utah fan and I’m thrilled they lost against Oregon, but I prefer Ute fans to Aggie fans based on my interactions. Maybe it’s because recently Utah fans have less reason to be little brother-ish and obsessed than in the past? Or I just got an above average sample.
