He took over a losing program at Weber St. Weber hadn't had a winning season in 5 years. Since then he's taken Weber to 4 straight FCS playoffs, three straight quarter finals, and this year to the semi finals.
He's also the defense coordinator and his defense has been one of the best in the country. Top ten in picks, turnovers gained, and red zone defense. His best defensive player last season Taron Johnson was drafted in the fourth round by the Buffalo Bills.
Two of his 3 losses this year were at SDSU, 6-0, at Nevada 19-13. And at FCS power Montana, which he avenged tonight.
He's widely known as one of the best recruiters in the nation, having spent 9 seasons as a full time assistant at Utah. Rivals.com named him to its “Class of 2009 Top 25 Recruiters” and named him one of the Top 10 Recruiters in the Pac-12 in 2012.
We poached his OC, Fesi, two years ago, hasn't slowed him down.
And he's LDS, from Lehi.
So yeah, I know we weren't in the market for a successful LDS head coach and quality defensive coordinator, but IF WE HAD BEEN it's good to know that there was a 44 year old option 100 miles north of us 😉
