Got hit by a car - healthcare is a mess
Standing outside my car after a fender bender a third car lost control and plowed into me. Sent my flying and I landed on my head in the street.

Knocked me out and gashed my head along with the typical soft tissue injuries.

Been getting care for a few weeks and bills are starting to show up. It’s shocking. A one mile ambulance ride was $2000. Thought we pay taxes for police, fire and ambulance but I guess if you need it you pay on top of that.

A night in the hospital with some tests on my head was nearly $20k not counting doctors. I’ve also noticed multiple prices on several bills. It’s 3x more for the same care if an insurance company is paying.

I’m beginning to recover but have a ways to go to get back to full health. Biggest concern is blurry vision and lack of movement in neck back and shoulders. Just happy this happened outside of golf season so I have some time to heal and hopefully recover.

Given the complexity of dealing with hospital and dr billing I’ve decided to retain a lawyer. Not looking to extract something from those at fault but certainly don’t want to go out of pocket for something that wasn’t my fault. Love to get some insights from others who have been through this on how to get a fast and fair settlement that covers all the healthcare costs and impact this has had on my life.
