A lot of people stop playing professionally because of injuries, which would disqualify them for active duty.

No one else can be deferred for an indefinite period of time to pursue another career. It seems that this would create division in the academies where shared experiences, merit, and equality of status seems important.

Service academies exist to produce warriors, not to produce football teams. I think this reduces their focus on their primary mission.
