As an aside, this is a different level but I hate getting mauled by peoples dogs
in their homes. It's your home, your castle, I get that - a different level. But if you came in to my house and my kid (that you didn't know) was bouncing on your lap and licking your face that'd get annoying right?

I love my kids, but I don't automatically assume you do and that you want their attention/affection. I think this is more common in a home teaching/need to be in the home situation. When I'm in a friend/families home and their dog is mauling me I say "Get your stupid dog out of my business." And I'm fine if they say the same thing to me. If my kids are interrupting or being annoying they can say "Get your kids out of here so we can talk/watch the game/etc" and it's no big deal.

I got bit two years ago home teaching to a new family in the ward (remember home teaching...?). I went over and had a good get-to-know-you/lesson. Their annoying Rhodesian ridgeback was in my face the whole time, but it was only my second time visiting so I wanted to be as polite as possible and just suffered through it. The dog was nice the whole time, but when I was putting on my shoes to leave he decided to bite my leg. No blood or skin breaking, just a bruise for a week or so.

I'll mention a huge thanks to anyone who is good about their dog behaving when guests are around. I certainly don't mean to imply that all dog owners are like this.
