With our first, my wife made him sleep in our room in the bassinet.
He slept terrible. I said he probably keeps waking up when we move or cough. We weren’t sleeping well and while my wife was reluctant to do so we moved him into his room with a baby monitor by our bed. My wife would jump out of bed every time he whined or cried. We still didn’t get much sleep.

I knew how worried she was so one night I secretly unplugged the monitor. We slept great, I plugged the monitor back in when we woke up and all was well. Checked on the baby, all was well.

This went for about a week and my wife kept commenting on how well he was sleeping. Well, she caught me unplugging the monitor one night. It would be an understatement to say she was upset. I got it, I lied to her. But then I reminded her how well she slept and that he seems great. She relented and asked if we could plug it in. We plug it in and go to bed. About 3 am she gets out of bed, doesn’t just unplug the monitor but yanks it out of the wall and threw it in the trash can in the garage. Slept great the rest of the night.

The kid is 8 and she still loves to tell the story of how I secretly unplugged the monitor but never finishes the story, so I oblige.
