My friend was a flight engineer with the Canadian Air Force for 30 years. When

he was stationed in the NWT he had stints up to the base at Alert which is the furthest northern base in Canada. From there they flew up to the North Pole on several occasions. Those missions were mostly to keep an eye on Russian subs running under the arctic sea ice.
