So I'm going into my 5th year as a top level manager at my job and need advice
I feel like I'm just starting to learn what is required of the job. Is that normal? I'm debating if I should make some drastic changes now that I have my feet on solid ground.

For example we've been running the same software development life cycle processes for years and everybody I know tells me I need to update to more modern business practices. But our current process is simple, easy to learn, but we still have a fair amount of quality issues despite the easy process. On top of that, one of my main team leads swears by the process and seems incapable of adapting to anything new.

I've also distanced myself from the day to day operations of our teams. I let the team leads make all the decisions and empower them to do as they wish. Sometimes when projects struggle or fail I have to step in for a short bit to see what happened but I don't have the time to micro-manage on regular basis, so I usually step right back out of the project. I'm wondering if I need to take a more active role in the day to day operations of our teams.

Any advice?
