He's decent when he's in the right role. His Oscar win was for Leaving Las Vegas, and was nominated for Adaptation. He's also pretty good in the National Treasure movies, and Raising Arizona, and a few others.

But man, he has also chosen some really stupid movies to be in, and those can be entertainingly stupid. Made even more entertaining by his terrible acting in those movies.
