I don’t think I have ever seen someone get into drugs as an adult

That wasn’t suffering from mental illness of one kind or another.

Normal, happy people don’t just decide to start taking drugs and become addicts. Most of the time it is someone experiencing a lot of pain (emotional or physical) and they turn to drugs to mask the pain.
