It's probably highly dependent on consumption levels and standard of living
If population growth occurs primarily in 2nd and 3rd world countries where the standard of living is low (and demand for resources is also low), then obviously the earth can support a higher population. If the population growth occurs in 1st world countries and the new population is demanding the resources of a first world country, then we can support significantly fewer numbers.
