What type of an arm do you need to make a throw like the one shown here?
It's about a 25 yard throw, but without a lot of velocity on the ball it wouldn't get through the two defenders.
A strong arm, of course, also widens the field. If you loop a ball to a receiver on the sideline, that ball is a good candidate for a defender to intercept. The same can be said for a ball just about anywhere on the field. The greater the velocity, the less time a defender has to close a gap.
Deeper throws on something like a go route don't always even require great arm strength. Instead of zipping in those throws inside of tight coverage, those throws are frequently lobbed over the defense.
Does arm strength matter for baseball pitchers? Almost all of their throws just go from the mound to the catcher. It's always the same distance regardless.
