the coaches didn't trust him in pass protection, run the right routes, etc. to give him a bigger role against better teams. He was literally 6th string to start the season and the coaches were trying to prep Ty'son and others ahead of him in fall camp. He just got back from his mission in the summer, so they were planning to just let him redshirt and absorb the playbook. Injuries forced them to play him and then went back to the RBs they trusted for the last couple games.
