Definitely. Some diseases peter out, and some turn out to be Spanish Flu or
the Black Plague.

I don't think we are at risk for a Black-Plague level event because, you know, modern standards of water purification and pest control and hygiene.

But Spanish Flu? We are more at risk now than 100 years ago because of ubiquitous air travel and a cavalier attitude towards getting enough sleep, not staying home when you are sick, etc.
