I think all of the smash burger types or similar that aren't the standard
low end national chains, belong in their own category. For one, people need to stop grouping 5 guys with regular fast food chain burgers. The fast casual setting is different.

If you want to look at what might be viewed as "above the standard national chain" then you maybe group In-n-out, Steak n shake, Freddy's, etc. You don't put 5 Guys, Smash Burger, Shake Shack, etc grouped in with those guys.

Shoot, for non-national places and a combo of quality and price for just the burger itself, I'll take Cook-out over In n out. I'll take a lot of things over in n out. Only western people are obsessed with it because they don't know any better. It's not awful like Waaataburger but it's not special.
