The problem with soccer players is it is very difficult for them to take over a
game like a basketball player can. Basketball is a sport that allowed MJ to create a perception that when he was ready to win, his team would win. No soccer player has been able to have that perception. Sure, there are a few games where Messi or Pele tore it up, but MJ could single-handily win games. Oh, and everyone in Europe knows who MJ is.
