where they can clearly make an immediate impact in the locker room and on the field, and contribute monumentally to the growth of a struggling/improving/promising football program. Going into it with a leadership mentality because they want to make their mark.
I am not saying there's anything wrong with choosing the blue bloods or perennial powerhouses. Many of those players have that leadership mentality regardless. I am just talking about players who choose a school because they think it's the path of least resistance. Winning is paramount but in the long run I'd rather be a Fred Warner - whose team had a terrible senior season yet he left a big mark and built himself a path of leadership and success that carried him convincingly into the NFL - than a 3rd string 3-star player on Clemson who only plays a few snaps each season and doesn't get a chance to build up a strong case for the NFL (or just the satisfaction of having a productive, meaningful college football career).
Obviously every player has dozens of factors to consider when choosing where they want to take their football talents and career. No single school is ever going to be the perfect fit for every player (and BYU is even more unique than average in terms of being the "right fit"). This is not a jab at any specific player or football school. Just saying, I admire the players that see opportunity where others see disadvantage.
